Become A Volunteer

Tech Dome Penang will be the Centre of Inspiration where Science and Technology, the community and the industry converges for future generations. We aim to leverage this convergence to make Penang and Malaysia a hub of inspiration, innovation and entrepreneurship, especially amongst young people. As we are a non-profit, we rely on sponsors and volunteers to make Tech Dome Penang a magical place of science.

Whether you join us as Navigators or Educators, you will be instrumental in bringing science and technology alive to visitors and participants of our various science programs. If you have a passion for learning and concern for our future generation, work with us to make Tech Dome Penang’s programs interesting, fun and captivating. Navigator

Duties
Navigators work within Tech Dome Penang and their main job is to help ensure that the visitors make the most of their time here. Navigators will also assist the staff in carrying out some of their duties. Specifically, Navigators will:

  • explain scientific concepts and help visitors interact or play with the exhibits
  • assist visitors with their needs while they are exploring Tech Dome Penang e.g. giving directions, making exhibit recommendations, giving out pamphlets, helping visitors use the Tech Dome Penang app, conducting surveys, etc.
  • reports faults, test run, start-up/shut-down and suggest improvements for exhibits

Qualifications
A Navigator must

  • be above 18 years of age (no upper age limit),
  • have a bright and cheerful personality and is comfortable with meeting and interacting with people
  • minimum passed Form 5
  • have good communication skills

Hours required

Tech Dome Penang will operate from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. every day. The slots for volunteers are in 4-hour shifts i.e.

Shift A 10 a.m.– 2:30 p.m. (half-hour lunch to be taken between 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.).
Shift B 2:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. (15 mins tea break to be taken between 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.)

Navigators are allowed to do double shifts and there is no restriction on how many days they choose to come. However, the assignment of hours will be determined by staff of Tech Dome Penang.

Educators

Duties
Educators work to improve and deploy education programs both within and outside of Tech Dome Penang. An Educator will assist the education programs to:

  • deploy education programs and with time, become a program lead themselves
  • manage the assets related to the program e.g. apparatus, furniture, stationaries, etc.
  • maintain student databases
  • interact with students via social media outside of class hours
  • modify and improve programs
  • develop new programs

Qualifications

An Educator must

  • be above 18 years of age (no upper age limit)
  • have a bright and cheerful personality and communicates well
  • minimum passed Form 5 with credits in any three Science and Maths subject or have the relevant qualifications and experience.

Hours required

The Education Programs hours will be varied but mostly they will be conducted on the weekends or evenings. Some of the programs will be run outside of the Tech Dome Penang. There are no restrictions on the number of programs you can participate in, the constraints would be your time and location limitations.
