Volunteers play an integral role in enhancing a visitor's experience to Tech Dome Penang.
Tech Dome Penang will be the Centre of Inspiration where Science and Technology, the community and industry converge for the future generations. We aim to leverage this convergence to make Penang and Malaysia a hot-bed for inspiration, innovation and entrepreneurship especially among young people. As we are non-profit, we rely on sponsors and volunteers to make the Tech Dome an inspirational space to make all these happen.
When you join us as volunteers whether as Navigators or Educators, you will be instrumental in making science and technology alive to those who come to Tech Dome Penang and get involved in our various programs. Duties
Navigators work within Tech Dome Penang area and their main job is to make the experience of the visitors as pleasant as possible and to assist staff of Tech Dome Penang in carrying out their duties. Specifically Navigators:

A Navigator must
Hours required
Tech Dome Penang will operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day. The slots for volunteers are in 4 hour shifts i.e.
Shift A 10 a.m.– 2:30 p.m. (half hour lunch to be taken between 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.).
Shift B 2:00 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. (15 mins tea break to be taken between 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
Navigators are allowed to do double shifts and there is no restriction on how many days they choose to come. However, the assignment of hours will be determined by staff of Tech Dome Penang.
Benefits
Remuneration and other benefits for volunteers are being worked out and shall be announced at a later date.
Navigators work within Tech Dome Penang area and their main job is to make the experience of the visitors as pleasant as possible and to assist staff of Tech Dome Penang in carrying out their duties. Specifically Navigators:
- explain the scientific concepts and help visitors interact or play with the exhibits,
- assist visitors with their needs while they visit Tech Dome Penang for e.g. giving directions, directing and recommending them to other exhibits, giving out pamphlets, helping visitors to use the Tech Dome Penang app, conducting surveys, etc
- reports faults, test run, start-up/shut-down and suggest improvement in exhibits,
Qualifications
A Navigator must
- be above 18 years of age (no upper age limit),
- have a bright and cheerful personality and comfortable meeting people,
- minimum passed Form 5
- have good communication skills.

The Education Programs hours will be varied but mostly they will conducted in the weekends or evenings. Some of the programs could be run outside of the Tech Dome. While there is no restrictions on how many programs you can be involved in, there will be time and location constrains on how many programs you can realistically participate in.

Educators work to improve and deploy the education programs of Tech Dome Penang whether within and outside Tech Dome Penang. An Educator assist the education program lead:
- to deploy the education program and with time, become a program lead themselves,
- manage the assets related to the program for e.g. apparatus, furniture, stationaries, etc
- to maintain student databases
- to interact with students via social media outside of class hours,
- modify and improve programs,
- to develop new programs.
Qualifications
An Educator must
- be above 18 years of age (no upper age limit),
- have a bright and cheerful personality and communicates well,
- minimum passed Form 5 with credits in any three Science and Maths subject or have the relevant qualifications and experience.
