As part of the brand-building and public awareness campaign for Tech Dome PENANG, a series of 9 roadshows have been planned out at various shopping malls in Penang from August to December 2014 with another 9 to be planned for 1H2015 leading up to the targeted opening of the centre in the second half of next year.

The dates and venues for the forthcoming roadshows in 2014 are as follows:

  • Aug 09/10 @ Gurney Plaza
  • Aug 30/31 @ Queensbay Mall
  • Sep 13/14 @ Gurney Paragon
  • Sep 20/21 @ Queensbay Mall
  • Nov 29/30 @ Gurney Paragon
  • Dec 06/07 @ Gurney Plaza
  • Dec 13/14 @ Queensbay Mall
  • Dec 20/21 @ First Avenue Mall
  • Dec 27/28 @ Gurney Plaza

The roadshows will showcase various science and technology-related activities for children up to 15 years of age. Amongst these are activities and games focusing on nature, maths & science, life sciences, robotics and astronomy.

Children attending the roadshows will be able to participate in interesting hands-on activities conducted by our event partners from 12 noon till 7pm each day. There shall be no charge for participation but pre-registration may be required at the respective activity-booths on the event days due to limited places for participation per session.

To offer more variety on interesting activities for the children, there will be a mix of different event partners participating in the various roadshows and most of them will be showcasing different activities at each venue. Full details on the roadshows can be obtained from our web-site at www.techdomepenang.org or via facebook/ techdomeinpenang.

In line with the main objective for the setting up of Tech Dome Penang, it is hoped that the activities conducted during the roadshows will help to spark the interests of young children in the field of science and technology and inspire them to subsequently pursue studies and careers in these fields.

Tech Dome Penang is expected to be ready by 2H2015 and members of the public and/or children will have the opportunity to pre-register as future members so that they can be kept abreast of future developments and may also be entitled to free gifts, lucky draws or early bird membership offers.

Making Tech Dome Penang A Reality

It is estimated that a sum of RM23 million will be needed to cover the renovation and cost of exhibits for Tech Dome Penang. Whilst the Penang State Government has granted the use of the Komtar Geodesic Dome to house the centre and also provided seed-funding for the project, we need the financial support of the corporate sector and the public to help make this project a reality and, hence, we welcome any form of donation from the public.

In acknowledging this as a project of national interest, the Ministry of Finance has granted tax exemption for any cash donation made for Tech Dome Penang. The public can make their donations at any of the roadshows for which tax-exempt receipts will be issued for contributions above RM50. Donations can also be made online through the website.

Appreciation

We extend our deepest appreciation to the participating malls (namely Gurney Plaza, Queensbay Mall, Gurney Paragon and First Avenue Mall) for coming forward to host the roadshows and also extending technical support on a complimentary basis.

Our gratitude also goes out to other event partners namely Inti College, KDU College, Disted College, SEAMEO-RECSAM, USM Astronomy Club, Mother Nature Science, CR8, Science Explorer, KenRay Communications, Mobile Frens and 12-Make Sdn Bhd for specially tailoring the related activities and supporting the roadshows.

We also thank Jabatan Pendidikan Negeri Pulau Pinang for endorsing the roadshows which we hope will encourage more school children to attend.
